Frequently Asked Questions

What is IPL?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light and has gained widespread popularity for the many benefits it affords the user. This modern technology aims to remove unwanted hair, slow the aging process by reducing wrinkles and perfect the skin tone by treating blemishes. Multiple uses of IPL also increase collagen production in the skin, leaving you glowing from the inside out! Due to IPL's diverse range of uses and proven results, IPL is a must for anyone wanting to look and feel their best.

Is IPL Safe?

There have been numerous worldwide studies that demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of IPL for hair removal. Due to this fact, it has become an extremely popular safe at home treatment.

We always advise that you exercise caution when treating yourself as not everyone is suitable for IPL treatments.  Due to the level of melanin in the skin, some darker skin types will not be able to use IPL. The same applies if you have a recent tan. Additionally, we advise to check with your doctor first if you are taking medication that may make your skin sensitive to light. People with Epilepsy should not use this product as the IPL has a bright flash.

Does IPL Hurt?

IPL is almost painless compared to other hair removal techniques. It is most commonly described as feeling heat more than pain.

Does IPL work for all hair colors?

IPL relies on melanin in the hair absorbing the light energy, and therefore IPL is not effective on very light blonde, red, or grey colored hair.

Does IPL work for all skin tones?

IPL is suitable for all skin tones except the darkest.

Which areas of the body can I use this on?

You can use your handset on your entire body, including your Brazilian and face (just be sure to not get too close to your eyes).

Is it safe to IPL while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Although there is no evidence showing that IPL has negative effects on pregnant or breastfeeding women, we still don’t recommend using our handset as a precaution.

Is it safe to IPL over freckles or moles?

You should not IPL over very dark freckles or moles, however light freckles are fine.

Can I use this product before or after tanning?

If you have recently been tanning, we recommend waiting 2 weeks before using your handset. You should wait 48 hours to tan after using your handset. Artificial tan should not be on your skin while using your handset.

Is it safe to IPL over tattoos?

You should never IPL over tattoos. This will cause the IPL to target the tattoo and could produce burns and a painful experience. However, going around tattoos to treat an area is fine.

At what age can you start IPL treatment?

Generally, we only recommend that IPL hair removal treatment should only be done for someone 16 and up, due to the hair being at a mature state.

Certain ethnicities see hair growth maturity at younger ages, use is up to the user and anyone under 18 years old should seek parental consent and an expert opinion (aesthetician/dermatologist) prior to use of our IPL handset.

How many years will this product last?

Our IPL hair removal handsets have 999,999 flashes, enough for lifelong use.

Can this epilator achieve permanent hair removal?

Yes. You usually need between 3 and 8 treatments to achieve noticeable results with IPL hair removal because your hairs will be at different stages of the growth cycle at any one time. After your initial treatments, you may need to have some top-up sessions as well, to maintain the hair reduction. Some areas of your body may need more treatments than others. For the best results, always follow the manufacturer’s recommended treatment plan. In 1st-4th weeks, we recommend to use 3 times per week; In 5th-6th weeks, use 2 times per week; In 7th-8th weeks, use 1 time per week; Over 8 weeks, use 1 time per 2 weeks.

Do I need to wear eye protection?

No, it is not necessary to wear eye protection while using our handset. Our handsets will not pulse unless it is pressed against your skin. Regardless, it is important not to look directly into the light.

Do I need to shave before using the IPL hair removal?

Yes, you should shave the desired areas before using your IPL hair removal handset.

Do you have to use a blade razor to shave or can you use an electric shaver?

Shaving it down anyway is fine but I would not wax. Waxing can remove the root making it hard for the IPL to do its job. How IPL works it needs to be able to "see" the pigment of the hair. If it is waxed away there's nothing for it to treat.

What mode & intensity level should I choose?

We recommend starting at the lowest intensity and working your way up each session, if you get uncomfortable and/or get marks that last longer than a couple days it means that intensity is too high for you and the one below it should work best.

2 Modes Explained:

We realize that not all body parts are created equal, so we created 2 separate modes that will make your IPL hair removal journey that much simpler.

Glide Mode:

Hold down the pulse button and glide the handset across your body your handset will automatically flash every half second. Please lift handset after each flash to cool the bulb.

Perfect to quickly and precisely treat areas such as your arms and torso.

Auto Mode:

Hold down the pulse button away from your skin until all indicator lights are blinking. This will make the handset flash every half second it is in contact with your skin, without clicking anything. Please lift handset after each flash to cool the bulb. To disable, hold down the pulse button until the lights stop blinking.

Perfect to quickly and effortlessly treat your legs.

Do you have to use it daily for weeks/months?

No. In 1st-4th weeks, we recommend to use 3 times per week; In 5th-6th weeks, use 2 times per week; In 7th-8th weeks, use 1 time per week; Over 8 weeks, use 1 time per 2 weeks.

Which hair removal methods can I use between treatments?

Between treatments you should only shave. You should never wax or any method that removes the entire root, which is what absorbs the light during the treatment.

Before and after care? What should I take or do?

Nothing special is required for either. The pulses can be adjusted to your comfort level and does not hurt. The more often you utilize the product the better the results. The darker/coarser the hair the higher the setting should be. If you are unfamiliar with the process, start on the lower settings then adjust to higher so you can become more comfortable with it. You can start with clean skin, then I follow it up with my normal moisturizing routine.

Is IPL hair removal item easy to use?

It is easy to use and you can switch between the settings with ease. The five levels make it easy to adjust the right intensity in the area.
